The Hostetters of Engleside, 1717-2017: A Narrative History of One Family Line

Daniel G. Hostetter

  • 1800

Part One of this book lists the nine consecutive owners of the Hostetter Homestead at Engleside, Lancaster County, PA, beginning with Immigrant Jacob Hostetter (c1690-1761), who was married to Anna Kreider (1700-?) and had 8 children. Jacob left Switzerland in order to live in religious freedom and godly fear. His last words were that those that followed would also embrace that godly fear. This book shows the effects of his choices to honor the God he feared and to inspire others. Part Two lists the ten generations of Immigrant Jacob Hostetter (c1690-1761). (182pp. color illus. index. Author, 2023.)

Any descendant of immigrant Jacob (c1690-1761) and Anna (Kreider) (1700-?) Hostetter, who settled southwest of Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1717, should be interested in this book. The author documents the succession of ownership of the land from Jacob’s warrant in 1717 to the author’s ownership of the remaining part today. With over 300 years of history, this land has accumulated many wonderful stories.

I bought this book because I thought that it was about one line of my ancestry. It does begin with the first two generations of ancestors in America but the truth is that this book is about a property that has been the home of Hostetters since those early days in the 1700s. It is quite interesting though I am descended from none after the first two generations.
