Amish Pioneers of Oscoda County, Michigan

Geauga Amish Historical Library

  • 1200

In 1899, advertisements appeared in The Sugarcreek Budget for a land agent planning excursions for land seekers to northeastern Michigan. A testimonial letter signed by five Amish men from Geauga Co., Ohio, appeared in the August 1899 issue of the Budget. One of those land seekers was Samuel Weaver who was the first Amish settler in Geauga Co., Ohio, and the first Amish settler in Oscoda Co., Michigan, relocating there in 1900. The small booklet titled Information for Home Seekers was published in 1904 and is reproduced here along with additional information by Amish historian and author David Luthy. (69pp. illus. Masthof Press, 2024.)
