In the mid-1950s, three adventurous Swiss men from the narrow confines of central Switzerland set off on a journey to the land of unlimited possibilities. Franz Auf der Maur, Konrad Rickenbach and Franz (Gummel) Schmidig found themselves in California. With some luck and by dint of hard work, the three of them became prosperous selling Chuchichäschtli (from Swiss German: “kitchen cabinets”) from their successful shop.
