We love this book!
We first read Malinda in Mexico as a read-aloud with my 4 and 5 year-olds. We loved reading the book together and living these beautiful stories of life in Mexico from the perspective of a little girl. My oldest has now re-read the book independently, and she picked up even more. It sparked wonderful conversations about living abroad and different cultures around the world. I even got to share some of my own stories from spending time in Mexico. This was such a wonderful story, full of relatable young-child emotions, fascinating experiences, and a culture that's warm and rich. We highly, highly recommend Malinda in Mexico!

Great for my Elementary School Classes
"Malinda in Mexico" is about a young girl and her family who are living in Mexico and working with Mennonite Central Committee. It is written from the point of view of Malinda and shares about the people, culture, and her experiences while living there. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and gained new insight on Mexican culture and its people.
Currently, I am a reading specialist in a school with many different cultures and languages. While I was reading this book, I shared the chapter of Malinda and her Daddy's visit to see Mesa being made to a group of fourth graders. This led to a conversation about tamales and an opportunity for these children to share about their culture and make connections to the story.
Whether you are four or eighty-four, "Malinda in Mexico" is a wonderful book to read, enjoy, and learn more about our southern neighbors. I'm looking forward to sharing this book with my students next year!
