How can one of this country's most beautiful and valuable carousels remain in storage 23 years after citizens of Lancaster County raised $1.3 million toward its purchase? This book tells the story of the Rocky Springs Dentzel Carousel that was operated from 1899 to 1982 in Rocky Springs Amusement Park near Lancaster City and subsequently in Michigan and at Dollywood. Included is a history of Dentzel family carousel making by William H. Dentzel III, along with 13 of his original drawings. Also included are before-and-after restoration photos of 12 Rocky Springs Carousel animals by Lisa Parr, a world-renowned restorer of carousel animals. Includes many photos never previously published. (244pp. full-color illus. Masthof Press, 2023.)

"I recommend you read it, or even buy an extra copy to pass as a gift or donate to your local library." -- from a review in the Merry-Go-Roundup magazine (Spring 2023) by Betty Largent, past-president of the National Carousel Association.

When I first saw this book, I could hardly believe my eyes. A book about the Rocky Springs carousel & park. Born and raised in Lancaster, PA, I rode this carousel many times in my childhood. So I immediately knew I just had to have this book, ordered it, and find that it’s a wealth of history & information about the Rocky Springs carousel, the park, and even beyond. Very well written, and as I read this book, I find that it will also serve as a valuable reference source. I treasure and highly recommend this book to anyone else interested in not only the Rocky Springs carousel, but carousels in general and their history.
