Michael Troyer, His Sons, and Four Grandsons in Pennsylvania: An Examination of the Records and Stories of the Troyer Family
In a follow-up to The Troyer European Heritage: An Examination of the Evidence (item #4336), this book begins with a review of the evidence about the life of the immigrant Michael Troyer and his wife Magdalena Mast, their sons, and four grandsons in Pennsylvania. Drawing on various documents, especially tax records from Lancaster, Bedford, and Somerset counties, the activities and acquisition of resources by the early Troyer families is detailed as well as the mysteries associated with John Troyer, the eldest son of Michael Jr., one of the first Amish settlers to move to Ohio. The second half of the book examines the evidence for some of the stories and puzzles associated with the Troyer family including: Were the Dreiers sent to Trub? Did Michael have a brother in the U.S.? How did the family surname become “Troyer?” How did Michael spell his surname? What is known about his sister? What does Y-DNA analysis reveal about ancient Dreier/Troyer family history? (180pp. illus. index. Masthof Press, 2025.)
