Communicating with God
In the beginning of the book, the author affirms that just as a marriage is nourished by "sensitive and honest communication" so is our relationship with God. Time and again reference is made to the biblical narrative as to the importance of prayer to persons of faith and the need to pray. While it is not always easy, nor do we always get what we pray for, nevertheless "we are promised God's empowering and sustaining grace". Prayer is what nourishes our relationship with God and as the author affirms in concluding his book, "the more we commune with the Lord, the more we realize his power and love".

For the Spiritually Young and Old Alike
In Prayers that God Hears, Dr. Henry G. Covert gives a good overview of the spiritual discipline of prayer. He draws from Biblical examples of prayer and how it has been prevalent, important, and even necessary for the lives of faithful people, although it is often a neglected area for many. Dr. Covert addresses prayer and how it intersects with many things believers often hear about such as the Holy Spirit, God’s grace, and miracles, but don’t often think about. If you have ever wondered about, or wanted to know more about prayer, then this book is for you. This book gives an honest and realistic look at the many types of situations real people find themselves in and why they would bring their very realistic situations and feelings before God in prayer. The author brings a lot of experience and wisdom from his long career as a chaplain and pastor. The content of prayers and what someone should pray for is also discussed. There is even a helpful appendix at the back of the book that lists Bible passages to look up for prayer in various situations. Those new to faith will be enlightened and the rest of us will be challenged to grow in faith.

Journey to the Next World
Knowing Henry for two decades I recognize he is a pastor with great depth of life experiences. Christ Jesus is a the center of the messages presented in PRAYERS THAT GOD HEARS. Because Henry forms dynamic human relationships there is a transformational nature where God in Christ intersects with grace and love which changes everything.
