Born deep in the hills of East Germany, the author and her family navigate the challenges and perils of WWII. With amazing detail she recalls the hardships of her childhood and the anguish of having to leave her beloved home and being forced to live in a refugee camp in Austria. Things do not get better after the war has ended as she returns to Germany and grows up as a disliked refugee in her own country. What sustains her through these trials? (187pp. illus. Masthof Press, 2023.)

Also available is the sequel, The Memory Quilt (item #4552), which contains adult situations.
