Henry Youndt

  • 1100

Max has lots of friends, but he needs a soulmate. He has established a reputation
for the ability to get along with the most difficult people, but that was before he ran into Cletus Copperfield. Tempers flare when these two find themselves on the same expedition on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. Having an attractive female in the group makes things even more competitive. When the weather turns nasty, survival depends on cooperation, but how do you accept help from someone you despise? How do you apologize to someone you can’t stand? It's a canoe-camping adventure on the scenic lakes and rivers of northern Maine, but back home in Pennsylvania Max’s daughter Michelle is vehemently opposed to her father’s newfound interest in a lady whom she believes to be completely wrong for him. How far will Michelle go to protect her father? (196pp. Masthof Press, 2018.)

Damage versus Happiness - which will win out?
The writer portrays one of humanity's faults - judging others by their outward appearances and actions without getting to know the real person and underlying motives. This story shows the damage that can occur when a person holds onto their preconceived ideas or the happiness that can be found by being willing to understand another person's perspective. It is easy for the reader to relate to the situations and emotions that arise in this book and surprisingly, decide to alter one's own behaviors.

"Allagash Triangle" does not disappoint!
“Allagash Triangle” does not disappoint! Henry Youndt’s love and knowledge of the outdoors and canoeing are evident here but they do not dominate. He uses them only as vehicles to delve into relationship challenges. He deftly applies considerable tension to keep the story interesting and the reader guessing about what’s around the next bend in and out of the Allagash Waterway.

Readers will wish the book was longer since they will have bonded with many of the characters, some to their surprise. Youndt sprinkles his work with his faith in just the right amount. Everyone will find something to like in “Allagash.”
